Date
[1346-1353]
Description

Name(s)
de Bylkmore (Bilkemore); de Bylkemore (Bilkmore), Robert; Anastasia
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The Bylkmores have arrained an assize of novel disseisin against Ryvere, Symeon and others for a tenement of which they were disseised in Wooton Rivers, which assize has been postponed first as a result of Robert Bylkemore's absence from the realm on the king's service and then as a consequence of procedural delays; they request that they should suffer no further delays in having justice on this matter by the writ of continuance of de la Ryvere.
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the council that the delay is perilous and against the law of the land and the petition should, therefore, be shown to the king, and that a writ be ordered to the justices to proceed to hold the assize not withstanding the first writ of the assize since the king and those in his service have returned from Brittany.
Places mentioned

Note
Datable between the first writ delaying the assize of novel disseisin as a result of de la Rivere's absence from the realm, issued in 1346 (CCR 1346-9, p. 76) and the death of Anastasia Bylkemore in 1353 (CFR 1347-56, p.371). Detailed context on this case is found in Victoria County History of Wiltshire, vol. IV, p. 422.
