Nature of request
The petitioners request that the sheriff of Yorkshire be commanded to empanel the good people of the neighbourhood to state the truth, and not to empanel suspicious people or those people procured by Branktre against the law, and that remedy be done to them concerning their right to a moiety of the church of Bubwith. The king brought a writ of quare impedit against them for it supposing he had title by the minority of the heir of Roger Mortimer. The petitioners wishing to disprove the king's title caused an inquisition, but Branktre who the king had presented proceeded to rig the jury.

He should have a writ to the sheriff to empanel a jury of the good people according to the form of the petition.

The petition can be dated to 1370 as an exemplification of the inquisition held apparently held in response to the petition was enrolled on 15 May 1370, and records the date of the inquisition as 25 April 1370 (CPR 1367-70, pp.408-9).
