Nature of request
The prior states that Edward I by his charter granted to Felton that notwithstanding the statute of Mortmain he could grant to the prior rent in Newcastle in exchange for land in Thirston. It was found in the Eyre of Northumberland that the prior had purchased the rent before the licence of the king had been given, and it was taken into the king's hand. Subsequently the priors have requested that the king's charter be changed and the trespass of the entry pardoned. The prior, who is entirely ruined in the Scottish war requests that the king change his charter and pardon the trespass.

The petition seems to date to 1334 for the rent was restored and the prior pardoned for the trespass on 16 June 1334 (CPR 1330-4, p.551).
