Adam de Bridlington, Clerk
Name(s)
de Bridlington, Adam

Nature of request
Bridlington states that he has served Edward II and III for a long time in their Household and has only received a reward of a pension of 5 marks per annum from the prior of Carisbrooke that is 15 marks in arrears, and the expectation of advancement to a suitable benefice by the prior. Now the presentments of their benefices are reserved to the king, so that he requests payment of the arrears and especially of some suitable benefice for his service.

Prior of Carisbrooke
Note
The petition is dated on the guard to? c. 1327. As the petition makes mention of service to both Edward II and III, it seems unlikely that the petition dates to the period of 1327, but to shortly thereafter, perhaps as lately as 1330. It cannot be much later than this, for Bridlington is recorded as a canon and prebendary of the collegiate church of Wengham in the diocese of Canterbury, and parson of a moiety of the church of Aylmerton in the diocese of Norwich in September 1332 when he was exchanging the moiety of the parsonage for the church of Stretton in the diocese of Hereford (CPR 1330-4, p.339). It is unlikely that he would complain about his provision if he was already in possession of a prebend and a moiety of a parsonage.
