Description
Petitioners
Gerard Breybroke (Braybrooke).
Name(s)
Breybroke (Braybrooke), Gerard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Gerard de Breybroke states that the king ordained in parliament that no one should leave court without redress for cases where there was no redress provided in Chancery. He shows that he was enfeoffed of the manor of Colmworth by John and Joan de Breybroke, agreeing that Joan should have sustenance from the manor amounting to £40. Joan brought a writ of entry against William de Menyl by collusion, Menyl being Gerard's tenant for life, to pay this sustenance. Gerard requests the discretion of the king and council since Joan could have had the manor in form of law, and not by this collusion contrary to the agreement, and he wishes to know whether Menyl should be able to discharge the tenements of the £40 which Breybroke holds in fee.
Nature of endorsement
Let him go to Chancery. And let the clerks meet and reach agreement if they can. And if they are not able to, let him come back to the next parliament.
