Date
[c. 1302]
Description
Petitioners
Mary de Breose (Braose).
Name(s)
de Breose (Braose), Mary
Addressees
King
Nature of request
Breose states that there were divers disputes between her and William de Breouse which the king wished to be determined by him and his council and assigned Metingham and Hertford to hear and determine it. Amongst which disputes Breose demanded 800 marks, arrears of fine of 1,000 marks which her Welshmen of Brecon made to Breouse the father for trespass. William de Breose was cognisant in the judgement and knew that the debt was due and has delayed the thing for six years and more. She has satisfied the king of the debt and has suffered as a result of default. She requests remedy especially as the advancement and marriage of her daughters are delayed in consequence, and that he order that the treasurer, Metingham and other lawful men may proceed in the business without delay. William de Breose ought to agree to this for the advancement of his sisters to whom Breose would assign the money since he cannot profit from it as it remains in the hand of the Welsh.
Nature of endorsement
The treasurer and Metingham calling to them William Houward in the place of Hertford and others of the council of the king of the Exchequer should proceed according to the process had in the same place as shall be just, and let a writ be made from Chancery.

Note
The petition probably dates to c. 1302. New justices were associated to the case on 25 September 1302, though it is probable that this was done in response to a subsequent petition for one of the endorsements to this refers to the addition of a justice who is noted as already associated in the patent roll entry (CPR 1301-7, p.92).
