Peter de Brembre, Clerk of the Wardrobe
Name(s)
de Brembre, Peter

Occupation
Clerk of the Wardrobe
Nature of request
Brembre shows that the king gave to him a prebend in the church of Glasgow from which he has not been able to have the fruits nor other things for one Alexander Brown has entered the prebend by force of armed men without a gift of the king contending that it was vacant. And when he had a collation of the king and was installed and received in the prebend he had letters to the sheriff of Lanark that he be put in possession and maintained in all things by the gift of the king and by a statute that he had of the chapter of the church of Glasgow, and not to allow Brown to intermeddle, and to defend Brembre's interests. However Brown afterwards came by force and drove out his procurator so that he was not able to levy anything. He requests that a remedy be ordained for him by which the right and the gift of the king be maintained.
Nature of endorsement
Order to the sheriff of Lanark by writ of Chancery that it should be enquired upon the trespass contained in this petition made by Brun, and if it is found that he is culpable then he is to be taken and imprisoned and held without mainprise until etc..
Places mentioned
Glasgow, [Lanarkshire, Scotland]
People mentioned
Alexander Brun (Brown)

Note
There seems to be no direct evidence for the dating of this petition. However Brembre was recorded as a clerk of the wardrobe in the 1290s and a king's clerk in 1298, and was presented to the church of Northbury in 1305. The petition may be after this, but the guard comments do suggest that this could be as late as 1319 (CPR 1292-1301, p.389; CPR 1301-7, p.371).
