[c. 1323]
Description
Petitioners
William de Bradewell (Bradwell); Alexander de Befford.
Name(s)
de Bradewell (Bradwell); de Befford, William; Alexander
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Bradewell and Befford, late keepers of the lands forfeited in Worcestershire request remedy as they have been unable to sell the few goods of the rebels and due to the poverty of the tenants levy the rents. They were ordered to send what money they had raised to the Chamber which they have done, but Staunton has charged them with a sum for the fallow land which is now on account in the Exchequer.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons that if it is found on their account that they ought to be discharged then let justice be done to them.2) Coram rege.
Places mentioned
Worcestershire
Worcester, [Worcestershire].
People mentioned
Hervey de Staunton, Justice.
Note
The petition must date to 1323 or shortly thereafter as the petition refers to the forfeitures of the rebels in 15 Edward II which has to be 1322, and then an order on the 12 February that must be 1323 or even 1324. In addition the petitioners describe themselves as 'late the keepers of forfeited land' so that 1323-1324 is probably the earliest this petition can be.
