Description
Petitioners
Parson of the church of Boxley.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Parson of the church of Boxley
Nature of request
The parson shows that the church is taxed in the register remaining in the possession of the pope, and in other registers for the tenth granted by the clergy and imposed by the pope at 40 marks which he has paid to the court of Rome and at the Exchequer. Now by an error of the Exchequer he has been charged for the tenth according to the tax of £40. The parson requests a suitable remedy be ordained so that he is not wrongfully charged.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they search the assessments and accounts for the tenth. If they are able to know that the correct assessment is 40 marks then they are to amend the tax roll of the church, and receive from the parson the tenth according to the tax of 40 marks, and discharge him of the assessment of £40.
