Richard de Bourn (Bourne)
Name(s)
de Bourn (Bourne), Richard
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Bourn shows that Trenchard enfeoffed him of the manor of Shalfleet, and this was rendered in fee simple by fine and with the consent of Edward II, by which fine Bourn recovered seisin before the king in his 9th-11th years of his reign against Trenchard and others to whom he had alienated the manor between the levying of the fine and the execution. Afterwards Trenchard was outlawed and excommunicated, but escaped from prison and came with others and ousted Bourn because he did not release to Trenchard his right that he had in the manor, and alienated the manor to diverse men to the prejudice of the king and Bourn's disinheritance. Bourn requests remedy.

Note
The petition is laden with dates of events which all seem to have occurred between 9th and 15th years of Edward II, except for one which is dated to 1 Edward III. It is likely therefore, that the petition dates to c. 1328 as the guard suggests, indeed the dispute that was evidently going on between Bourne and Trenchard was still very much alive at this point as a commission of oyer and terminer witnesses (CPR 1327-30, p.283).
