SC 8/35/1728
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Daniel de Bourgham (Burgham).
Name(s)
de Bourgham (Burgham), Daniel
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Bourgham shows that whereas he was in the town of Cheltenham in the time of Edward II, and there came Arundel and others all of Kent and took and carried away his chattels by order of the king. He requests that the king make restitution to him in what manner pleases him so that he is not delayed since he does not have the power to sue at the common law.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue at the common law.
Places mentioned
Cheltenham, [Gloucestershire]
Gloucester, [Gloucestershire]
Kent.
People mentioned
William de Arundel, William Munte
Robert Gold
Thomas de Mollehale
John Bernard, the younger
Peter atte Goldhord
Ellis le Port.
Note
There is nothing to date this accurately. The guard dates it tentatively to? c. 1327 on the basis of an isolated reference to a Daniel Burgham accused with others of breaking a house in Faversham Kent (CPR 1327-30, p.81). However the plea seems likely to be early Edward III like the other petitions by this petitioner.
