Description
Petitioners
Robert de Boulton, clerk
Name(s)
de Boulton, Robert
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Boulton states that Edward I gave to him for his life the keeping of the hospital of Mary Magdalene outside Berwick. He enjoyed peaceable possession until he was ejected by Robert the Bruce. Afterwards the earl of March gave the keeping to Sprouston, and he still occupies it. The king assigned certain justices to do justice to English men who demand burgages, rents or other possessions within the town of Berwick and Boulton sued before the justices for the keeping against Sprouston. By the default of Sprouston all that remains is for judgement to be rendered for him. Boulton requests that the justices be ordered to go to final judgement, and that no other commission is made whilst the judgement is pending.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ to bring the tenor of the record and process into Chancery, and when it has been viewed and examined justice is to be done.
