[c. 1330]
Description

Prior and convent of Blyth

King and council
Nature of request
The prior and convent show that the men of the king lately burnt their house when they were lodged there so that the damage was assessed by the inquisition taken before Turpliton and Barton at £40 of which they have received nothing to their great impoverishment. The prior and convent request satisfaction according to right and reason.
Nature of endorsement
Let the inquisitions that were made be brought into Chancery, and the king will do such grace as pleases him.
Places mentioned
Blyth, [Nottinghamshire]
People mentioned
Hugh de Turpliton (Turplington), Steward of the household
Thomas de Barton, Treasurer of the Household
Note
The petition must date to some time in or shortly after 1330 because of the reference to the inquisition made by Hugh de Turplington, steward of the Household who only held office from 1-29 August 1330. Inn addition the king was at Blyth on 16 January 1327; 24 August 1328 and 24 September 1330 according to letters patent dated at Blyth (CFR 1307-49, pp.75, 102, 195 and 232).
