[c. 1315]
Description
Petitioners
The wife of William Blakeburn (Blackburn).
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The wife states that her husband was sumpter of armour and valet of the Chamber of Edward I, and he was due 8 marks for which she has a bill, and was usher of the hall, but died in Scotland in the last defeat. She requests that the king grant her a position or make sustenance for her and her child, she not having any manner of goods or chattels to sustain them.
Nature of endorsement
She should show the bill in Chancery and she should have a writ de liberate.
Places mentioned
Scotland.
People mentioned
William de Blakeburn (Blackburn), husband of the petitioner
Edward I, King of England.
Note
The petition presumably dates to the period after the defeat at Bannockburn as the petitioner makes mention of the death of her husband in the last defeat, so c.1315 does not seem unreasonable here.
