Description

Name(s)
Bilcok (Bilcock), Juetta
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Bilcok shows that when she was unmarried she left the service of Sporle, then keeper of the wardrobe of Burgherssh and went from London to Derbyshire taking with her certain goods and chattels to the value of 20 marks. In the town came Rome, Cook, Sele and Placiden and took her goods by colour of suspicion and imprisoned her for five days. She was delivered from prison and commanded to bring letters testimonial of her conversation under the seal of the mayor of London and other good men. Afterwards she had letters under the seal of the mayor and Sporle to the bailiffs and sergeants, and demanded the livery and restitution of the goods. Cook demanded that she give to him and their companions 40s. and a general acquittance for delivery of the goods, and they have detained the goods to her great wrong and damage. She has sued for writs to have execution of the goods and she has not been able to have remedy. She requests remedy.

Note
The petition must date to around 1361 for the petition itself states that Juetta had gone to Derby in 1360 (34 Edw. III), and John Wroth was mayor of London in 1360. It is unlikely that Juetta's complaint would postdate this by long.
