The tenants state that there was a dispute on Saturday before the Nativity of St John the Baptist last between them and the earl of Devon's tenants of Tiverton when the earl's tenants came by force and arms to the vill of Bradninch and took some of the king's tenants and imprisoned the in Exeter castle, and beating and wounding others of them, and others dare not return to the vill nor do what they ought to do if they do not have a remedy. They request that they grant them swift remedy on the matter so that they can return to their tenures, because although letters patent have been ordered to John Cary to provide them with a remedy they do not believe that they will be restored to tranquillity and Cary will provide them with a remedy.
