Reference
SC 8/34/1660
Date
[1316]
Description
Petitioners
William Bevercote (Bevercotes), clerk of the king
Name(s)
Bevercote (Bevercotes), William
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Scotland.
Nature of request
Bevercote requests that the king order that he be paid for the arrears of his fee for when he was chancellor in Scotland by assignment or in another manner so that he is able to settle his debts for sums that he borrowed in expectation of payment.
Nature of endorsement
1) The petition is to be expedited and he should have a writ de liberate for £100 in part. And afterwards it is ordered in the parliament of Lincoln that he should have a writ de liberate of the residue. 2) Coram rege et magno consilio.
Note
Bevercotes does not seem to have been chancellor after 1316, so the petition must date to then or thereafter. In addition a writ dating to 22 February 1316 was issued to the treasurer and chamberlain to pay a smaller sum than Bevercotes had requested as his arrears (C 62/92 m.2).
