Description
Petitioners

Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The executors show that Edward II lately made assignment to Ralph for making purveyance of diverse victuals to the use of the king in his Scottish war. The treasurer and barons of the Exchequer ordered the sheriff of Westmorland to deliver £40 to Benton and sent a tally to Benton. When he tendered the writ and tally to the sheriff, but he answered that he had delivered the sum to Clifford by letters of the privy seal of the king, so he was unable to have it and the writ and tally remained in his keeping. The executors request that the king send a writ to the treasurer and barons that if they are able to find by inspection of the liveries that Benton made satisfaction of the money in his account, and that they receive the tally from the executors and pay them or make another suitable assignment of the sum.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer, barons and chamberlains of the Exchequer that they search the rolls and remembrances of the Exchequer and Wark's liveries. If they find that Benton has made mention in his account to Edward II as is supposed by the petition, then they are to receive the tally from the executors and pay them the sum of £40 or a suitable assignment.
