Description
Petitioners
John Biset, son and heir of John Biset
Name(s)
Biset, John
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Biset shows that he and all his lands were in the keeping of Edward II by his minority, and he came of age at Easter 1323. At Pentecost following Philip Maubank who held two manors of Biset died, and his heir was within age, and the wardship should pertain to Biset, but he was deprived by the bishop of Exeter and Despenser. He was not able to prove his age until the feast of St John next at which time it was proved by an inquest returned into Chancery by which he had livery of his lands but could not obtain the wardship and lands of the heir of Maubank from the bishop which he had by grant of the king until Biset made a fine to the king. Biset requests remedy, that the farm paid for the wardship be discharged, and he be restored.
Nature of endorsement
The inquisition should come before the council.

Note
Misdated on the guard to c. 1327. Biset gained possession of the wardship and lands in 1324 as is made clear by a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer ordering them to acquit Biset. It would seem that the escheator had been ordered to stop intermeddling on 12 March 1324 (CCR 1323-7, p.100).
