Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/33/1645
Date
[c. 1332]
Description
Petitioners
Mabel Braddeshagh (Bradshaw), wife of William de Bradshaw.
Name(s)
Braddeshagh (Bradshaw), Mabel
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Braddeshagh shows that her husband has been imprisoned in Pontefract castle, and the lands which were her inheritance, and the goods found in those lands have been seized into the hand of Holland without judgement so that she has nothing to live on. She requests that her husband be delivered and her lands and goods are restored to her.
Nature of endorsement
She should have a writ of replevin of the body of William, and nonetheless she should sue by the common law for the recovery of their lands and goods because her husband is able to make an attorney whilst he is in prison if he wishes.
Places mentioned
Pontefract, [West Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned
William de Braddeshagh (Bradshaw), husband of the petitioner
Robert Holland (Holand).
Note
Tentatively dated on the guard to c. 1333. It must be earlier than SC 8/296/14769, from the same petitioner, now a widow, which seems to date from 1334, and suggests that her husband is already dead by 1333.
