Nature of request
Brydelington shows that whereas he had an office in Kingston-upon-Hull of the gift of the king's father for the service that he had done him and what he had suffered, having been wounded at Berwick, and having captured one of Robert the Bruce's banners at Byland. He hastened to the king's cause when the queen returned from overseas and was with him afterwards. He requests that he may have the office again as the one who holds the office should not have it except by purchase.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is witnessed by the council that he had the office before this time, and that he had suffered diverse hardships in the service of the king, he should have the office at the will of the king in the manner that other have held it.
