Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/33/1632
Date
[c. 1318]
Description
Petitioners
Peter de Besazz (Bazas).
Name(s)
de Besazz (Bazas), Peter
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France]
Dyvelyn (Dublin), [County Durham]
Drogheda [Ireland]
Waterford, [County Waterford, Ireland]
London.
Nature of request
Besazz states that he has been assigned to be paid from the issues of Gascony, and from the customs on wool, skins and hides from Dublin and Drogheda from which he has been unable to have anything. He requests that he be assigned in addition the customs of Waterford of wool, skins and hides, and he requests that it be granted to him that he may be paid a certain sum by the treasurer in London from the Wardrobe of the late king.
Nature of endorsement
He is to show before the treasurer what he has of the assignment, of how much he has been paid, and how much is in arrears, and let the king be certified.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1318 and is a near contemporary of SC 8/33/1628. It is certainly after 1315 when the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer of Ireland were ordered to pay Besazz from the customs of Dublin and Drogheda (CCR 1313-18, p.184). A petition by Bazas was answered in the parliament of Edward II held at York in his twelfth year (October 1318) (Docs. Illus. English History, p.45). This does not seem to have been an answer to either of these petitions, as both responses are different from the enrolment, but they are unlikely to be of a dramatically different date.
