Description

Name(s)
de Beston (Beeston), William
Addressees

Nature of request
1) Beston complains that Latimer had his land from Rotherssend, which he had in his keeping until Beston came of age. When he came of age he wished to enter the land, but Latimer did not suffer him to do so, and in anger made his men to begin to cut his woods and only ceased when he was paid by Beston and his people. He requests remedy.2) Afterwards Beston purchased a writ of morte d'ancestor against Latimer, but the writ is delayed for a year or more so that he is not able through the law or by other means to have recovery of his lands and damages. He requests that he be able to have remedy, and that he can have his land and damages without delay as he does not have the power to plead against such a great lord by the common law because of the great costs and delays.3) He complains that for default of keeping of his manor of Beeston it is destroyed and his people driven away. He requests an inquisition and if this confirms this he asks for the king's grace.1)
