Nature of request
1) The burgesses state that the market of Tweedmouth be abated, but is still held without warrant to the great damage of the king and of the town of Berwick.2) The burgesses state that the king has granted to them a fair by his charter from Easter until Michaelmas. They request that they be able to change it, and he grant to them a fair from the feast of Holy Cross in May until the feast of St John the Baptist. This will be to the greater profit of the king, and the improvement of the town.
Nature of endorsement
The petition is not endorsed, the responses are entered on the face following each entry:1) Sandale and Sheffield are assigned to enquire whether the market was held there of old or not, and for what time it has been enjoyed there, and they should certify the king and his council of this inquisition and everything concerning it.2) Their charter by which they have the fair should be viewed, and if it is let it be according to their petition, and their charter should be restored.

The petition can be dated to 1307 as the alteration to the date of the fair was approved in the Carlisle parliament of that year (CChR 1300-26, p.29).
