Nature of request
Montagu Martin states that he is acting for himself, and as an attorney for his fellow merchants. They had charged a boat with drapes and on their voyage were forced by the strength of the wind to enter the port of Guernsey, whilst anchored there, there came Hardy, Hanyn and others and boarded the boat and took the drapes against the will of the merchants to their great damage and impoverishment. Martin, for the trespass, by order of the king had a writ of Chancery of oyer and terminer directed to the justices of Kent, but being ignorant of the processes of law in England, Martin requests that the king will cause Hardy and Hanyn to appear before him and command them to return the drapes or their value without a plea without peril of body, plea or delay.
