Description
Petitioners
Prior and convent of Barnwell
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The prior and convent state that King John granted to them the vill of Chesterton at fee farm with various liberties including the return of writs for all things concerning the same vill. They had the return until Thomas de Belhouse, then the sheriff returned them. The prior and convent request that they be able to have the return of writs just as the predecessors have had until they were ousted.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain men be assigned to enquire of the same of when the priors were seised of the return of writs, why, when and how they were disturbed, and the damage which the king will suffer if this thing is granted, and what profits if the thing is retained. Let the heirs of Cambridgeshire, one or two of them return the searches and inquisitions, and when Chancery be certified, let justice be done.
Places mentioned

Note
The petition seems to be about contemporary with SC 8/15/738, which does date to 1331. This seems to be confirmed by the inquisition ad quod dampnum which dates to 5 Edward III.
