Name(s)
de Bereford, Edmund

King and council
Nature of request
Bereford states that his father gave the manor of Stapleford to Simon de Bereford and his heirs, and if he died without heirs from his body begotten, then the manor was to revert to William de Bereford, after whose death the manor was seized into the hand of the king. Edmund de Bereford sued by petition in parliament to the king to have the manor, and it was ordered that right should be done to him before the justices of King's Bench. The justices summoned before them various officials to see if there was anything that barred Edmund. An inquisition was held which confirmed the facts, but the justices would not render judgement. Bereford requests that it be ordained that right be done to him according to the verdict of the inquisition.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by a writ of Chancery to Geoffrey le Scrope that he bring the tenor of the record and process concerning this business before the council in Chancery, and when it is viewed and examined, if it is found that the inquisition is taken before the king by the agreement of the parties as the petition supposes, then let it be ordered by a writ to the justices assigned to hold the pleas of the king that they move to judgement and do full justice.
