King
Nature of request
Berners and Marny show that they were commissioned by the king to raise and lead 700 foot soldiers suitably armed and clothed to Newcastle. They have done this, buying cloth for the coats and buying armour, but have only received money from the counties for the vestments, and nothing for their armour or for Berners and Marny's expenses, and have paid great sums out of their money. They request that the king would not wish them to be the loser for their good deed.
Nature of endorsement
No endorsement.

Note
The petition must date to c.1322 as the guard suggests, for Berners and Marny were commissioned to raise the troops and lead them to Newcastle on 25 March 1322 (CPR 1321-4, p.96).
