Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/32/1600
Date
[? 1330-? 1345]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de la Bere.
Name(s)
Bere, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Haselbere (Haselbury Plucknett), [Somerset].
Nature of request
Thomas de la Bere states that ten years ago he pleaded with the king in a scire facias concerning half the manor of Haselbury Plucknett, on the issue of the country, and he has been adjourned from term to term without deliverance and greatly improverished by this. He asks that he might have deliverance, and that, because he is very poor, the inquest might be held in the country by a writ of nisi prius, by the best people of the country.
Nature of endorsement
It is to be done before the justices of assize. He is to have a writ on this.
Note
The petition is dated to? 1330-? 1345 because the dating of this and associated petitions presents real problems for dating. The petitioner, as he makes clear in his petitions, is involved in a very protracted legal suit, and the hands of the petitions vary quite considerably from hands of the 1330s-1340s (SC 8/32/1600; SC 8/169/8436) to a hand that looks securely of the 1350s (SC 8/145/7241). The various patent, close charter and fine rolls all seem rather later.
