Nature of request
Martin de Bek, merchant of Spain, states that the king has granted justices to hear and determine a trespass committed against Martin and his companions on the Isle of Wight, and because the people of the Isle of Wight are and have been guilty of this trespass, he requests, for himself and his companions, that the king order the justices, John de Foxle and John de Ticheborne, to hold the inquest with good and loyal people of Hampshire who are above suspicion.

CPR 1321-4 p.315 is dated at York, 3 May 1323; CPR 1321-4 p.380 is dated at Ightenhill, 7 October 1323. The main difference in this second entry, that the jurors are to be of Hampshire, seems to accord with this petition: it would therefore seem to be a response to this petition.
