Nature of request
The community of Bedfordshire state that they granted the king, in the ninth year of his reign, that they would find a man to serve in Scotland in every vill, and collected a great sum of money for this, which was remitted to them by the king for a sixteenth. An enquiry was held before Adam de Limberge into what had happened to this money, and it was found that much of it was in the hands of the collectors, who swore that they had re-delivered it to the vills, when this had not happened. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to these two petitions, the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered that if it was ordained that those moneys which were raised for the expenses of these men by the vills were to be returned, then they are to have those moneys which are in the hands of the collectors and subcollectors returned to the vills as is fitting.
