Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Beaulieu request that, as it has been ordained that the staple for wool is to be in England, the staple for the south country might be at Southampton, as if it is at Winchester as has been ordained, this will be to the detriment of the king and of the Abbot and convent, and of all others in the country selling wools - as will be found by a good inquest in Hampshire and the adjoining counties.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.Because the staple was ordained at Winchester by common counsel, let the staple remain there.

Dated on the guard to c. 1326, with reference to CPR 1324-7 p.269, which is dated at Kenilworth, 1 May 1326. CPR 1327-30 pp.98-99 is dated at Nottingham, 1 May 1327. This petition could therefore be either from the end of the reign of Edward II or the beginning of that of Edward III.
