Description
Petitioners
The executors of the testament of Alexander de Bastenswayt (Bassenthwaite)
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The executors of the testament of Alexander de Bastenswayt make three requests:1) That £39 2s. 8d. which Alexander owed the king for provisions bought in the seventeenth year of the reign of the king's father, might be allowed against £49 17s. 2d. which the king owed Alexander for his wages in the garrison of Carlisle during the king's father's reign.2) That they might have an assignment for £9 6s. 8d. owed to the king by William de Edenhale, William de Graystok and John le Huntier in the same sum of £49 17s. 2d., because the executors owe these people the same amount.3) That they might have an assignment for what remains of the £49 17s. 2d.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have examined the bills they have, if they find that the debt is still due, they are to have the debt which they owe the king allowed in the debt which the king owes them; and for the remainder they are to let them have payment or a reasonable assignment as soon as they conveniently can, receiving etc.

Note
CCR 1330-1333 p.362 is dated at Westminster, 15 October 1331, and is clearly in response to this petition. A note on the guard wrongly suggests '? c. 1326' with reference to Alexander's death in 1324, and to the thirtieth year of the king's father's reign. However it is clearly 'tresyme' - thirteenth, or possibly third.
