SC 8/31/1530
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Bailiffs of franchises
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The bailiffs of franchises make two requests:1) They state that it was ordained that they should give their responses to the sheriffs by indentures, but the sheriffs receive the indentures and then give other responses. They request that the indentures made between them and the sheriffs might be sealed with the bailiffs' seals and sent to court in this condition.2) They request that they might be able to keep the pledges of plaintiffs in pleas within their franchises, as they have full return [of writs] and finding pledges belongs to this.
Nature of endorsement
A statute has been made on this: the king wills that it be observed.
Note
Dated on the guard to 'c.1327' on the basis of Rot. Parl. vol. II, p.11, which comprises the common petition from which sprang the legislation referred to: the present petition must therefore be later.
