Note
This petition seems to be datable to the end of Edward III's reign by the hand, the style (a florid address to the king, 'A tresredote et tresnoble seignour, nostre seignour le roi') and various references to the people mentioned. Piers or Peter Sterre was a prominent citizen of London, and there are several references to him, especially as a collector of the subsidy on cloth (see, for example, CPR 1361-4 p.302, CPR 1364-7 pp.262, 398, CPR 1367-70 pp.18, 125). CPR 1367-70 p.125, dated at Westminster, 3 October 1368, is the last mention of him in the calendars: as it is clear from the petition that he is dead, it must date from between this date and Edward III's death in 1377.
