SC 8/31/1519
Date
[c. 1361]
Description
Petitioners
Gilet Daufryk
Name(s)
Daufryk, Gilet
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Gilet Daufryk states that William de Bohoun, Earl of Northampton, granted him an annual rent from his manor of Gussage St Michael in Dorset, and afterwards alienated the manor to Richard Garlond and Richard Dekene, and their heirs, and resumed estate to him and his wife, and her heirs. After her death the manor descended to Edmund, son and heir of Roger de Mortimer, Earl of March, who is under age and in the king's wardship: he therefore asks the king to order the escheator to pay the rent.
Nature of endorsement
He is to show his deed in Chancery, and when the truth has been inquired into concerning the points in the petition if it is found to be as he has claimed by his petition, then he is to have a writ for payment to be made to him.
Places mentioned
Guissich Bohoun (Gussage St Michael), Dorset
People mentioned
William de Bohoun (Bohun), Earl of Northampton
[Humphrey de Bohun], Earl of Hereford
Richard Garlond (Garland)
Richard Dekene (Deacon)
Elizabeth [de Bohoun (Bohun)], wife of William de Bohun
Edmund [de Motimer (Mortimer), Earl of March]
Roger de Motimer (Mortimer), Earl of March
Note
William de Bohun, Earl of Northampton died in September 1360, and Roger de Mortimer, Earl of March, died in February 1360. This petition is likely to have been submitted reasonably soon after the death of de Bohun, so the date of '? c. 1361' given on the guards on these grounds seems reasonable.
