[Damaged] John de Athelles and Maud his wife, tenants of part of . . .[Robert de] Burughwassh, who owed various debts to King Edward, the king's father, . . . have come into various hands, partly into the hands of John and Maud . . . to levy the whole from John and Maud's portion, through the favour of the sheriffs . . . . John and Maud request a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to levy the . . . the said debt from Robert's terre-tenants, and to grant them a respite from the said debt during the suit concerning the division between John and Maud and the other tenants.
Nature of endorsement
A writ, containing the effect of the petition, is to be sent to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer, that they are to inform themselves by inquisition or in other ways etc. of the portion which he holds of the total lands, and they are not to charge him beyond the portion which he holds.

This petition, with its reference to King Edward, the King's father, must date from the reign of Edward II, and probably from quite early in that reign, but no further context has been found.
