Nature of request
David, Archbishop of the church of St Patrick, Armagh, states that his predecessor, Nicholas, acquired certain tenements in Dromiskin and Dromin, and a third of the advowson of the church of St Fintan in Dromin, in the time of King Henry, but that these were taken into the hand of the king's father, because this had been done without the king's permission. He asks that he might be allowed to make fine for this trespass.
Nature of endorsement
Corem rege et magno consilio.The Escheator of Ireland is to be ordered to report in the Chancery of England if the tenements are in the king's hand for the reason given in the petition or for some other reason, and, if for the said cause, then he is to inquire when he purchased the tenements, and how long they were seised of them, and when they were seized into the king's father's hand; and he is to return the inquisition, and when it has been returned the king will be advised, and will do what seems to him to be done.

CPR 1338-40 p.85 is dated at the Tower of London, 12 May 1338, and is clearly the result of this petition.Nicholas Mac Maoil Iosa was Archbishop of Armagh between 1270 and 1303.
