Nature of request
The Abbot of Alnwick states that William, formerly Abbot, was disseised of 30 acres of wood with appurtenances in Preston, by William de Middilton. When William's son and heir John de Middilton succeeded, the present abbot brought a writ of entry, founded on novel disseisin, against him, during which writ John was forfeited for adhering to the Scots. The king has now given his lands to John de Crombwell. He requests a remedy.

Dated on the guard to c. 1318-19.The writ for the first inquisition in CIM 1307-49 pp.96-97 is dated at York, 5 November 12 Edward II (1318), and the inquisition was held on the Thursday before St Martin in Winter (November 1318). The writ for the second inquisition is dated at York, 12 December 12 Edward II 91318), and the inquisition was held on the Thursday following the Circumcision (January 1319).CPR 1317-21 p.254 is dated at York, 8 December 1318; CPR 1317-21 p.324 is dated at York,3 April 1319. Thus c. 1319 seems a reasonable date.
