William de Seint Auban
Name(s)
de Seint Auban, William
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
William de Seint Auban complains that Ralph Sauvage, formerly Sheriff of Kent, expelled him from a messuage and a carucate of land in Stowting in Kent, which he held of the lease of Henry, Bishop of Lincoln, claiming to have a warrant to seize the bishop's temporalities, took his goods and chattels, and kept him out of this land for three years, taking the issues in the meantime. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
At common law.
Places mentioned
Stowting, Kent
People mentioned
Henry [Burghersh], Bishop of Lincoln
Ralph Sauvage (Savage), Sheriff of Kent
Note
CPR 1321-4 p.434 is dated at Tonbridge, 26 June 1324.According to the List of Sheriffs, Ralph Sauvage was Sheriff of Kent between 16 July 1321 and 2 November 1322. If William de Seint Auban's lands have been withheld for three years, that puts the petition at about 1324-1325. The date of c. 1325 given on the guard thus seems reasonable.
