Nature of request
The Abbot claims that although the franchise of his Abbey comprises a sixth of the county of Hertfordshire, and has always answered for this proportion of the taxes, tallages, and other charges due from the county, William le Baud and Geoffrey de La Lee, arrayers of hobelars and archers from the county, charge the franchise for a greater proportion: for which he requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The said arrayers are to be ordered, by a writ containing the effect of this petition, that if this is the custom, they are not to distrain the franchise beyond what used always to be done in the past.
