Nature of request
Henry Alard complains that the Sheriff of Sussex, by procurement of the Prior of Wilmington, is distraining and executing his office in his lands, although they are in the franchise of Pevensey, a member of the Cinque Ports, and he has no jurisdiction there. He asks the king to send a letter of command to the Sheriff, ordering him not to enter the said lands, or others in the franchise, before the perambulation of the franchise which the king has granted has been completed.
Nature of endorsement
The Sheriff is to be ordered not to enter the liberty of the Cinque Ports contrary to the tenor of their charters.

Wilmington, [Sussex]
People mentioned

Note
The petition is dated on the guard to? c. 1307, but 1313 seems a more likely date, given CPR 1307-13 p.601, dated at Westminster, 3 April 1313. This might well be the perambulation referred to in the petition, especially as mention is made of avoiding disputes like the one mentioned here.Other mentions of the petitioner are in CPR 1313-7, pp. 356 and 509.
