Description

Abbot of Abingdon.
Addressees

Occupation
Abbot of Abingdon
Nature of request
The abbot of Abingdon requests that the king allow him, as part payment for a debt the king owes him, for 1000 marks for which he bound himself to the pope, the farm he owes the king for the manor of Newnham in Oxfordshire, which the king has in wardship because of the minority of the son and heir of Warren del Isle, and also the money the abbot owes him for the goods found in the manor when he took seisin.
Nature of endorsement
He is to come to the Exchequer and show the King's letters, and satisfaction is to be given him according to the tenor of those letters in an allowance for his farm, annually, and in other debts, or in some other way, by the Treasurer and Barons; and a writ is to be sent on this to the Treasurer and Barons.
Places mentioned
Abingdon, [Berkshire]
Rome, [Italy]
Newenham (Newnham Murren), Oxfordshire.
People mentioned
Warren del Isle (Lisle).
Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1301-1302' on the basis of CCR 1296-1302 pp. 430 and 541-542. CCR 1296-1302 p.430 is dated at Lincoln, 26 February 1301. This might be a likely date for this petition, but the allowance was clearly not made immediately, as CCR 1296-1302 pp. 541-542, is dated at Westminster, 28 July 1302. However, a date of c. 1301 should cover this.
