Date
[1337-1347]
Description
Petitioners
John Abel of London.
Name(s)
Abel, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
John Abel of London states that Master Peter Duraunt, formerly commissary of the Dean of the Arches, arranged for his excommunication to prevent his suit against him; and although he has made satisfaction and been absolved, he is still prevented from continuing his suit by a conspiracy between Master Adam Muriemuth and John de Sutton, Peter's successor, who refuse to grant him letters of absolution unless he drops it and comes to an agreement with Peter. He requests a remedy from the king and council in the present parliament, according to the statute 'Semper in novo casu novum remedium est apponendum'.
Nature of endorsement
Because it was attested before the council that the said John Able has writs pending in the King's Bench, fully containing this matter, against Master Adam Muriemuth, Master Piers Duraunt and Master John de Sutton, the said John is to continue to sue his said writs and the justices will do justice to him.
