Description
Petitioners
Thomas Nevyll (Nevill), esquire, of Cornwall
Name(s)
Nevyll (Nevill), Thomas
Addressees
Commons of parliament
Nature of request
Thomas Nevyll states that on 15 August, 13 Edward IV, Henry Bodrugan and Richard Bonethon came with a large party of riotous persons to his tin-mine called the Cleker, forcibly disseised him of it, and stole £40 worth of goods belonging to the mine from his house at Gunhals; and he cannot have a remedy against them at common law, because of their power in the county. Therefore he asks the commons to ask the king to ordain by authority of parliament that he may have as many writs as he needs to the Sheriff of Cornwall, to make proclamation that Henry and Richard are to appear in person before the King's Bench, to answer to him on this matter, and be committed to ward until they have found sufficient security not to harm him, or his wife, children, servants and tenants; and that the Justices of the King's Bench might have power to examine them concerning it; with various provisos to cover various eventualities.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Let it be sent to the lords.[On dorse] Let it be done as is desired.

Note
This petition, with the petition to which it is attached, and various other related documents, is enrolled on the roll of the parliament summoned at Westminster in October 1472 (12 Edward IV) and prorogued a number of times until January 1475 (Rot. Parl. vol. VI, pp.132b-135b).Rot. Parl. vol. VI, p.132b states that the petition to which it was attached was presented on 23 January, 14 Edward IV (1475), and that this petition was originally presented in the same parliament, which it says was held at Westminster on 6 October 12 Edward IV (1472), and prorogued several times until 6 June, 14 Edward IV (1474). This petition (Rot. Parl. vol. VI, p.134b) states that the attack on the mine took place on 15 August, 13 Edward IV (1473), so the petition must have been presented between then and June 1474.
