Note
According to the List of Sheriffs, a Thomas de la More was sheriff of Cumberland between 10 February and 5 November 1430, between 4 November 1443 and 6 November 1444, between 9 November 1447 and 9 November 1448 and between 8 November 1452 and Michaelmas 1453. A note on the guard identifies this petition with the last of these dates: this seems most likely, especially as there is no sheriff the following year, and clearly some difficulty in collecting the county farm: the List of Sheriffs says 'Hugh Lowther afterwards collected what he could for the King. See Pipe Roll.' This date is justified by the references to Lord Egremont: Thomas Percy was Lord Egremont between 1449 and 1460.
