The Chancellor and scholars of Oxford University state that by the king's letters patent dated 3 July, in the first year of his reign, he reduced the 100s. they were accustomed to pay annually for the right to the assize of bread, wine and ale, and the correction of the same, in Oxford and its suburbs, to 1 penny, but that this grant has been resumed, for lack of any proviso to the acts of resumption since made. They ask the king to re-authorise these letters patent as good and effective, by authority of the present parliament.

This petition is enrolled on the roll of the parliament summoned at Westminster in October 1472 (12 Edward IV) and prorogued a number of times until January 1475 (Rot. Parl. vol. VI, pp.33b-34a). It would seem, from pp.3a and 39a that this petition was delivered during the session which lasted from 3 October to 30 November 1472.
