Name(s)
Verdon (Verdun), Bartholomew
Addressees
King
Nature of request
Bartholomew Verdon, who has been outlawed for various forfeitures, homicides, acts of arson and other felonies in Ireland, and especially for the death of John Doudale, Sheriff of County Louth, and whose lands, tenements and other possessions have been seized into the king's hand and given to others by the king and by Thomas, Lieutenant of Ireland, his son, and by his deputy, asks that the outlawry might be annulled, and that these gifts may be repealed and his possessions returned to him, and that he and his heirs might be made able to plead and inherit, as if the foreiture had never taken place.
Nature of endorsement
The king, with the advice and assent of the lords spiritual and temporal, and at the request of the commons in the present parliament, has granted this petition according to its contents.

County Louth [Ireland]

Note
Petitions on this subject from the petitioner and James White, Christopher White and Stephen Gernon, are enrolled on the rolls of the parliaments held at Westminster in January 5 Henry IV (1404) (Rot. Parl. vol.III p.537a-b), with an exemplification, made at the request of the petitioner, dated at Westminster, 26 April 1404 (CPR 1401-5 p.388), and on the roll of the parliament held at Coventry in October 6 Henry IV (1404) (Rot. Parl. vol.III, p.552a-b), with an exemplification dated at Westminster, 20 January 1405 (CPR 1401-5 p.481). Another version of this petition is edited in Rot. Parl. vol.111 p.484b. This petition does not seem, either in the petition itself or in its response, to be identical with any of them, and of course is only from one of the petitioners: nevertheless, it receives a similar response, and appears to date from the same time. It cannot be much earlier, as the pardon to Bartholomew Verdon (CPR 1401-5 p. 240) is dated at Westminster, 4 July 1403.
