Nature of request
The petitioners state that following the death of the Duke of Warwick writs diem clausit extremum were issued, one to the escheator of Worcestershire to enquire of what the duke held of the king in the county. The inquisition was duly heard and returned into Chancery and following this Cecily, late duchess of Warwick received dower lands in the county by letters patent. The writ and inquisition were then delivered out of Chancery to Vampage, the king's attorney to be viewed for the king, and by his negligence were not retuned whereby the petitioners and the former escheator are likely to be grievously hurt. The petitioners request that the writ and inquisition be restored to Chancery and be held of full force as if it had not been removed from Chancery, as they remain with the former escheater, the current keeper of the rolls not being willing to accept it after the death of his predecessor. They request that the letters patent to the late duchess stand in full force, and that they stand in law able to immediately inherit of all the property assigned in dower following the death of the duchess.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] To this bill the commons are assented.[On dorse] The king has granted the petition in the manor and form desired provided that they always act concerning the affirmation of the letters patent made to the duchess in a manner not prejudicial to the bishop of Durham or his successors of any right or title pertaining to him in right of his church.
