Nature of request
1) The earl shows that he is owed a sum of money for his service, and for surety of the payment of this had letters patent that he should receive payment from the customs of various ports. He received some money, but he can have no more because the letters patent were annulled by an act made at the parliament begun at Westminster and concluded at Winchester. He requests that with the assent of the lords spiritual and temporal that they grant letters patent in the form of the draft.2) Draft letters patent of the king granting to the earl that they be able to ship sacks of wool and retain the customs and subsidy. Proviso that this is not to be to the prejudice of the queen or the duke of Buckingham.
Nature of endorsement
The king grants that letters patent be made that the earl be able to ship as many sacks of wool whereof the subsidy will amount to 800 marks until they are paid £2000 for the debts owed to the earl, and the king and his heirs be discharged of the same.

The petition clearly dates to 1453 as the letters patent issued in accordance with the request made in the petition were issued on the 8 April 1453. The earl was killed only 3 months later at the battle of Castillon (CPR 1452-61, p.116).
